Taxi
service is adequate in downtown areas of Tegucigalpa,
San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, and for that matter –
Tela.
Major hotels and the airports in Tegucigalpa and
San Pedro Sula have a fleet of taxis on standby.
Taxis have not meter system, so negotiate the fare
first. Rental cars are available and taxis can be
hired on a daily or hourly basis.
All car rental companies operating in Honduras have
offices at the airport. When renting a car, we recommend
to double check that the registration and documentation
is current. It is not legal to take a car rented in
Honduras out of the country.
Honduras has aggressively addressed infrastructure
over the past several years and now all major routes
between tourist areas are well-surfaced, all-weather
roads. Buses between major population centers run
regularly scheduled throughout the day and night.
Another method of travel is domestic flights. Isleña
Airlines connects Tegucigalpa with the north coast
and the Bay Islands. SOSA airlines have daily flights
scheduled from La Ceiba to the Bay Islands.
Tickets are inexpensive and travel time is considerably
less than by road. For
details on Isleña and SOSA airlines There
are two ferries running from Roatan to La Ceiba and
from La Ceiba to Utila.
